What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a non-invasive, holistic complementary therapy suitable for all ages from newborns to the elderly in restoring the body’s natural balance and rhythm. It works on the principle that every organ and system has a corresponding reflex point on the soles of the feet and the palms of the hands. These reflexes correspond to parts of the body and when stimulated, the body’s own healing processes are triggered reinstating homeostasis and overall well-being.

Light pressure is used to stimulate each of the reflexes to release tension, remove energy blockages, disperse ‘crystals’ (otherwise known as a build-up of calcium and uric acid), stimulates blood circulation all of which promotes the natural healing ability of both the body and mind.

WHAT HAPPENS IF MY FEET ARE TICKLISH?

The technique that I use for my ticklish clients are firm and slow movements that reduce the tickling sensation. However, if your feet are particularly sensitive then hand or facial reflexology can be used instead!

WHAT HAPPENS IF I HAVE ATHLETES FOOT OR A VERRUCA?

Small areas can be covered up with a plaster, but if necessary hand or facial reflexology can be given.

The Benefits of Reflexology

Reflexology has become a popular way to reduce stress and encourage relaxation by its non-invasive approach of restoring the natural flow of vital energy throughout the body.

The Ancient Chinese were aware of the correlations between the reflexes of both the hands and feet in relationship to other parts of the body and practiced reflexology alongside acupuncture to balance Qi (energy-the life force) within the body. By stimulating reflexes on the feet or hands the reflexologist is able to identify weaknesses and blockages within the body.

By working on these reflexes the parasympathetic nervous system is stimulated and this will encourage the thousands of nerve endings that correspond to the organs and energy pathways (Chinese meridians) to release blocks and promote health, vitality, balance and self-healing.

Reflexology may help address many issues such as:

  • Promoting overall relaxation
  • Anxiety and stress disorders
  • Alleviating pain
  • Problems with the reproductive system
  • Treating Gout and Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Helping with joint pain and joint mobility
  • Water Retention
  • Respiratory disorders
  • Insomnia
  • Digestive and Circulatory problems
  • Clearing the body of toxicity build-up
  • Improves immunity
  • Sinus disorders
  • Hormonal imbalances
(this is not an exhaustive list)

Initial Consultation & Reflexology Treatments

At our initial consultation I will ask you certain questions regarding your lifestyle, diet, exercise, general well-being and medical history to put together your bespoke treatment plan. This is also an opportunity to confirm whether reflexology is the appropriate treatment for you.

The only clothing that will have to be removed for a treatment to take place will be your socks and shoes.

The majority of my clients find their reflexology sessions very relaxing and tend to fall asleep during treatment! Please note that this does not prevent you from experiencing the full benefits of the treatment and it may well enhance the healing process. However, at times, sensitivity can be felt in areas on the feet or hands which usually indicates an energy block in that particular reflex.

The treatment will last between 45 minutes to one hour.

Reflexology is a complementary therapy and will not conflict with conventional medicine. However, it is not a substitute, therefore, medical advice should be sought from your GP in conjunction with this treatment where it is deemed applicable.

Facial Reflexology - The Bergman Method

I am also a qualified facial reflexologist having studied The Bergman Method of Facial Reflexology at the London School of Reflexology, which is one of the top treatments at the exclusive Grace Belgravia in Knightsbridge winner of Lux's 2015 best Health & Wellbeing club for women in the World.

There are huge benefits for clients with nervous and neurological conditions, such as Bell’s palsy. In addition, over a series of treatments, there are immediate beauty benefits of a smoother, tighter face and radiant complexion that a few of my clients have said is as good as a face lift!

If you have any questions I would be more than happy to answer via email or telephone.

Where does reflexology originate?

The art of reflexology dates back to ancient Egypt, India and China. In 1913 Dr William Fitzgerald introduced this therapy to the West as "zone therapy". In the 1930's Eunice Ingham further developed this zone theory into what is known as reflexology.
